How Does This Course Work?
The Finance Made Ridiculously Simple course consists of six modules and takes about 8 hours to complete. Each module contains video lessons that walk you through what you need to know about a business's finances.

Module 1: Build a strong accounting foundation
In this section, you will learn how shareholders set up a business. You will also learn about balance sheet basics and the four main types of long-term assets. You will understand the importance of inventory, calculate depreciation, recognize core accounting principles, and comprehend the meaning of accrual accounts. You will learn how to calculate gross profit and see how it drives retained earnings. Finally, you will understand how a business settles accounts receivables and payables.

In this section, you will learn how companies create a competitive advantage and how competitive advantage starts with revenue. You will also explore the ten main economic sectors, especially their growth patterns, and learn about ten leading companies from each.

Module 3: Identify the two main costs in a business and three margins that matter
You will learn a simple way to view profit from a shareholder, production, and operation perspective. This section will help you understand the meaning (and pitfalls) of the commonly referenced earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA).

Module 4: Recognize and focus on the real source of value in every business
Here you will see the beauty of the balance sheet and understand how a manager should view the tradeoff between strategic and core assets. Dr. Stotz will demonstrate the different proportions of core assets by sector to show each sector’s true source of value.

Module 5: Appreciate how companies acquire money to fund growth
This section will begin to explain the difference between a company’s strategic and core funding. You will get to know a company’s number one financial risk. Finally, you will learn about the difference between liability funding, equity funding, and funding from “free money.”

Module 6: Apply financial ratios to analyze management performance
Dr. Stotz wraps up FMRS by teaching you how to measure growth, internal liquidity, profit margins, and profitability. You will see how an expert breaks down profitability to reveal a company’s sources of return. You will be able to measure and thoroughly understand the financial risks that a company faces. In this final session, Dr. Stotz will dive deeper into one of the most critical profitability measures, return on invested capital.

About
Andrew Stotz
In 1992, Dr. Stotz left a management career at Pepsi-Cola in California to teach finance in Thailand and has not stopped teaching since. In 1993, he found his life calling as a financial analyst, a job for which he was eventually voted #1 in Thailand.
In the second half of his 20-year career in investment banking, Dr. Stotz was a head of research, leading teams of financial analysts. During that time, he served as a two-time president of CFA Society Thailand and now runs his own firm, A. Stotz Investment Research, which provides research and tools for institutions and high-net-worth investors; as well as, helps CEOs make their companies financially world-class.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in finance and an MBA from California Stotz University and earned his Ph.D. in finance at the University of Science and Technology of China. Andrew lives in Bangkok with his 82-year-old mothher, who will attest that he remains an analyst at heart!
